In a press release issued on Monday afternoon, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially confirmed the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the national team. The Italian, who has been managing Real Madrid since 2021, will take on the role for the first time in his career, with the clear goal of leading Brazil to World Cup glory in 2026.
Ancelotti’s final match in charge of Real Madrid will be on May 25, when they face Real Sociedad. After weeks of speculation, the CBF has now made his move to the Seleção official.
The 2026 World Cup is the clear target for Brazil.
At 65, Ancelotti brings a wealth of experience from coaching some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including AC Milan, Juventus, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, and of course, Real Madrid. Now, he’s stepping into international management with one of the most iconic teams in football history.
His debut with Brazil is set for June, in World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
“Bringing in Carlo Ancelotti is more than just a strategic move, it’s a message to the world that Brazil is serious about getting back to the top,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues. “He’s one of the greatest coaches of all time, and he’s now leading the best national team in the world. Together, we’ll create a new, glorious era for Brazilian football.”
