Twenty-two years after announcing his retirement from the sport, Michael Jordan will make his grand return to the NBA courts. Or rather, around the courts. The iconic 62-year-old former Chicago Bulls No. 23 will indeed be part of NBC’s XXL program starting next season.
The American media outlet, which broadcast the NBA until 2002, recently acquired the TV rights to the North American league from TNT. The key: an 11-year partnership that NBC intends to honor with the arrival of “His Airness” as a “special contributor.” A consultant unlike any other, in short.
While Reggie Miller, Carmelo Anthony, and Jamal Crawford, also recruited by the network to act as analysts, will presumably appear on set weekly, the six-time NBA champion is expected to appear on screen more occasionally, at specific times during the season.
