Just before heading to Pakistan for a five-match T20I series, Bangladesh will play two T20 internationals against the UAE in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. This marks the second time in three years that the two sides will face off in a bilateral T20I series. Their last meeting was in 2022, when Bangladesh took a 2-0 series win in Dubai.
“In the past three years, we’ve had the opportunity to host ICC Full Member teams like New Zealand, West Indies, and Afghanistan. Bangladesh returning for another T20I series reflects the strong cricketing relationship between our boards,” said Subhan Ahmad, COO of the Emirates Cricket Board. “These two matches will be a great chance for our team to gear up for this year’s T20 Asia Cup.”
For Bangladesh, this series kicks off a busy T20I season. After the Pakistan tour, they’ll travel to Sri Lanka for two Tests, three ODIs, and two T20Is. Then in August, they’re set to host India for a full white-ball series with three ODIs and three T20Is all building up to the Asia Cup.
“We’re grateful to the Emirates Cricket Board for organizing this short T20I series,” said Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. “It’s an important step in our preparations for a packed season ahead, including the Asia Cup. We also believe these games will help deepen the cricketing ties between our two countries and give fans some exciting cricket to enjoy.” Meanwhile, the UAE team is currently playing in the World Cup League 2 in the Netherlands. They’re currently at the bottom of the standings, with just two wins from 11 matches in the eight-team competition.
