Mohamed Salah has been named the Premier League Player of the Season for the second time in his career. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward, who played a pivotal role in helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title this year, previously won the award in the 2017-2018 season. Salah’s impressive season saw him score 28 league goals five more than any other player and contribute 18 assists, six more than anyone else in the competition. Heading into Liverpool’s final match against Crystal Palace, he was just two assists short of tying the all-time record of 20 assists, held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Salah also made history this season by becoming the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history, surpassing Sergio Aguero’s previous record of 184 goals. In addition, he signed a new two-year contract to remain at Anfield until 2027.Alongside Salah’s achievements, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch were among the nominees for the prestigious award. Gravenberch, who was named Young Player of the Season, made his mark with 59 interceptions, the most of any Premier League midfielder this season, and also led Liverpool players in possession wins.Salah’s victory marks the first time since the 2018-2019 season that a Manchester City player hasn’t won the Player of the Season award. Other notable players on the shortlist included Declan Rice from Arsenal, Alexander Isak from Newcastle, and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, among others.Salah was also recently honored as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the third time, securing over 90% of the vote. This recognition further cements his status as one of the Premier League’s top players, both domestically and internationally.
