After a disappointment following the elimination from the Champions League, Esperance won the Tunisian Premier League title this season for the 34th time in its history, following a resounding 5-0 victory over hosts Olympique Béja on Sunday in the 29th round of the competition.
Esperance benefited from their direct pursuer, US Monastir, falling to a 1-1 draw with their guest, ES Metlaoui, in the same round. Etoile du Sahel also won 2-0 over hosts Africain, and CS Sfaxien defeated their guest, CA Bizertin 1-0.
Esperance now sits at the top of the table with 65 points, four points ahead of second-placed US Monastir. The team, nicknamed “Cheikh of Tunisian Clubs,” has now clinched the title this season, even before the final round of the competition.
This title will help EST to prepare the Club World Cup in favorable conditions and with positive vibes.
