NBA Playoffs 2026: Three Game 7s in One Weekend, and the Madness Is Just Getting Started

NBA PLAYOFF 2026

Nobody said the first round would be boring. After weeks of jaw-dropping swings, blown leads, and veteran teams fighting for their lives, the 2026 NBA Playoffs have delivered something nobody fully expected a weekend where three separate series are going to Game 7 simultaneously. If you’re a basketball fan, clear your schedule.

Let’s break down everything that happened and what it means going forward.

The Series That Are Already Done

Before we get to the drama, let’s acknowledge the teams who have already punched their second-round tickets.

Oklahoma City Thunder swept Phoenix 4–0 and looked every bit like a title favorite doing it. Clean, dominant, businesslike. The young core in OKC is the real deal, and they’ll face the Los Angeles Lakers in a Round 2 matchup that has appointment TV written all over it.

The New York Knicks took care of Atlanta in six games, capping it off with an absolutely brutal 140–89 demolition job in Game 6. When the Knicks are firing like that, they’re one of the most fun teams in the league to watch. The Garden is going to be electric.

Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a first-round upset, knocking out the Denver Nuggets 4–2. That is a massive statement Denver was supposed to be a serious contender. Minnesota gets San Antonio next, which is a fascinating matchup of styles.

San Antonio Spurs dispatched Portland in five games and look like one of the more complete teams in the West. They’ll be a tough out for whoever they face.

Los Angeles Lakers survived a tricky five-game series against Houston and have earned their date with OKC. Nobody is giving them much of a chance against the Thunder, but the Lakers have been here before.

The Three Game 7s: Pure Madness

This is where things get truly wild. Three Eastern Conference series are knotted up at 3–3 heading into this weekend, and all of them deserve their own headline.

Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers: this one has had everything. Philly shocked Boston in Game 5 on the road, then Boston came back to win Game 6 at home, then Philly won Game 6 at their place to force a decider. Tonight, it ends in Boston. The Celtics are favored, but this 76ers team has proven it belongs at the table. Game 7 tip-off is tonight.

Detroit Pistons vs Orlando Magic: the biggest upset story of the round. Detroit came in as the East’s number one seed and Orlando, seeded eighth, has taken them to the absolute limit. The Pistons won Game 6 at home to stay alive, and now they host Game 7 on Sunday. Detroit is expected to close it out, but Orlando has shown zero fear this entire series.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Toronto Raptors: this might be the most back-and-forth series of the round. Cleveland looked like they had it under control at 3–2, then Toronto won Game 6 on the road to force a Game 7. Cleveland will host the decider on Monday night. The Cavs are the favorites, but Toronto simply refuses to go away.

What Round 2 Looks Like

On the Western side, the bracket is set: OKC faces LAL and Minnesota faces San Antonio. Both are compelling in different ways the Thunder-Lakers showdown has star power and storylines, while Timberwolves-Spurs has the feel of a classic tactical chess match.

The East is still sorting itself out. The New York Knicks are already waiting, and they’ll face whichever team survives the Celtics-Sixers war. The other East semifinal will come from the Detroit/Orlando and Cleveland/Toronto survivors.

The Bigger Picture

What this first round has told us is that parity in the NBA is real right now. Top seeds are sweating, eight seeds are winning games, and nothing is guaranteed. The Thunder look like the class of the field, but the Lakers, Knicks, and Spurs all have the talent to make noise deep into May.

One thing is certain if the second round is anything like the first, we’re in for one of the most memorable playoff runs in years. Keep your phones charged and your notifications on. This is going to get good.

We’ll have live Game 7 updates and full second-round previews all weekend. Don’t miss a possession.
