The coming weeks will be crucial for Paris Saint-Germain, as the club prepares to make several major moves: offloading unwanted players, finalizing the signing of Illya Zabarnyi, and negotiating contract extensions for key squad members.
As Thierry Henry once mused, “Even time doesn’t have time for time.”
And after a trophy-laden season, PSG’s leadership is wasting no time in looking to the future.
Zabarnyi Deal Nearing Completion
The club has been working for several weeks on the arrival of a new central defender, with the target now clearly identified: Ukrainian international Illya Zabarnyi. PSG has already reached a personal agreement with the player.
What remains is an agreement with Bournemouth, who were reportedly close to aligning with PSG on terms in late June. According to sources, the transfer fee should be around €60 million.
But Zabarnyi’s signing won’t be the only movement. Further changes are expected both exits and arrivals. Players like Kolo Muani, Asensio, and Skriniar are being linked with potential departures.
Contract Renewals: A Top Priority
Alongside the transfer market activity, PSG’s executives are turning their attention to a different challenge: contract extensions for key players — and the urgency is growing.
Dembélé, Barcola, and Doué Top the List
According to L’Équipe, the situation of Ousmane Dembélé could become a central issue very soon. Though under contract until 2028, the World Cup winner may be in a strong position to renegotiate if he wins the Ballon d’Or on September 22.
Currently PSG’s highest-paid player at €1.5 million gross per month, Dembélé could seek a salary in line with the world’s top five earners, the report says. Talks are expected to begin this summer or fall, with one source stating: “It will definitely be a conversation to have.”
The club is also focused on Bradley Barcola, whose contract extension is now high on PSG’s agenda. Despite strong interest from top clubs, PSG has already ruled out a sale. However, Barcola’s current deal and relatively modest salary are pressing issues. He’s not among the top 10 earners at the club, and could target a place in the top 5, according to the report.
Finally, there’s the case of Désiré Doué. Though under contract until 2029, his camp views an early extension as a priority, one that would serve as a reward for his impressive season.
